Antique Carved Sri Lankan Sapphire
Not something someone is offered everyday, but simply too intriguing to ignore. These worked Sapphire ‘beads’ (some are drilled, some are not) are found at various archaeological sites around Sri Lanka. The unique concave type of facets placed on the surface of the water-worn pebbles is consistent with technology available in the 12th-14th centuries. We only occasionally see these and have no reason to doubt they came from old collections and were collected by locals long ago. Fascinating stone and certainly jewelry worthy still today.
